Police secure remand of fake note dealers

Imphal, April 13 2022:
Two youths arrested by a team of City police station in connection with fake currency note racket were remanded to 10 days' police custody by the CJM Court Imphal West on Wednesday, The two have been identified as Ram Prasad Sharma (24) son of Swan Ram Sharma and Binod Sharma (24) son of Hansraj Sharma, both from Rajasthan.
As per report submitted by the investigating officer to the court, the duo came to a shop at Alu Gali called Sonu Clothes on Monday around 3 pm and demanded Rs 10 lakh in cash, which was supposed to be deposited by one Ram Avatar from Kolkata through 'Hundi' transaction.
The complainant of the case, Sunil Sharma refused to give the money and it led to an altercation following which, Sunil raised an alarm.
The two fled the scene as people nearby rushed to the shop upon hearing Sunil's shouting.
As they fled, the two left behind a handbag in the shop and when police checked the bag, found a fake currency note of Rs 500 inside it.
In the follow up investigation, police conducted search at Hotel Polo located at.
Jiri Parking, Wahengbam Leikai and arrested the two.
Upon questioning, they disclosed that they are from Rajasthan and they are working under a Kolkata based Hundi broker named Ram Avatar since last year.
The Hundi broker gets real currency notes from different parts of the country, mostly from northeast region and provides fake currency notes to the target customer through Hundi transaction.
The two are the main accomplices of Ram Avatar and for every successful transaction they are paid Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh based on the transaction amount.
They collect legal tender notes from different cities while Ram Avatar arranges the fake currency and bears all the travel costs of the two.
They arrived in Imphal on April 9 to collect Rs 10 lakh from Sonu Clothes.
After examining the IO's report, the court remanded the two to police custody for 10 days till April 24 for further interrogation.
