Imphal, August 01 2022:
While terming the government's claim of making the state corruption-free as hollow, false and boisterous, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) alleged that other than abetting corruption there is no substance in the assertion that graft cases has been eradicated from the state.
Speaking to media persons at Congress Bhawan here on Monday, MPCC vice president Hareshwar Goswami accused the BJP-led government of misleading the people by cooking up stories to claim that the state has been freed from corruption.
He stated that vivid example that Manipur is one of states with high rate of corruption could be comprehended from the state having numerous backlogs and pending corruption cases as per the Niti Aayog 2020-21 index.
Instead of taking up actions against additional chief engineer of PMGSY who was arrested in connection with embezzling of department's fund amounting to Rs 70 lakh, the issue has been overlooked, he said, while urging to stand firm and fight against corruptions instead of misleading the public with tall claims.
Formation of anti-corruption cell and handing over cases to vigilance are nothing but an attempt to hogwash the people, he added.
