Peace rally held; sit-ins, human chain decry So0

Imphal, June 06 2023:
A mass peace rally organised by 10 villages of Mayang Imphal under the aegis of Jamiatul Ulama, Bengoon, Mayang Imphal was taken out from Mayang Imphal Bengoon Salamat Ba-zar to Mayang Imphal Bazar on Tuesday to demand solu-tion to the present crisis and restoration of peace.
According to Jamiatul Ulama, villagers of Ben-goon, Heibong Makhong, Khelakhong, Santhal, Han-gul, Uchiwa, Phaubakchao, etc., held a mass prayer at Madrasa Mazaharul Uloom campus for peace in the state before the start of the rally.
The participants carried placards demanding resto-ration of peace & normalcy, government should resolve the present situation at the earliest etc.
During the rally the villag-ers voluntarily closed down their businesses.
Meanwhile, Meira Pai-bi groups of Achanbigei Makha Awang and Achan-bigei Makha Leikai staged a sit-in protest demanding immediate revocation of SoO with Kuki militants, at Achanbigei, on Tuesday.
During the sit-in, the par-ticipants also held placards inscribed as, "Implement NRC in Manipur, "Restrict entry of Burmese Kuki into Manipur" , "Save Meitei/ Meetei, save Manipur", " No separate administration", "We Meetei want Peace", etc.
Speaking to the media, an agitator urged the state as well as the central gov-ernment to take up effective measures to bring normalcy in state at the earliest so as to stop the killing and assaults on both the sides.
She also appealed to the concerned authorities to safeguard the integrity of the state, pre-vent violence and implement NRC.
Local residents and Meira Paibi members also formed human chain from Lamlong bridge till Sagolmang on Sunday evening, demand-ing protection of Manipur's integrity, immediate with-drawal of So0 and imple-mentation of NRC in the state.
The locals of Khurai also formed human chain and carried out candle light vig-il in front of Khurai Popu-lar High School on Sunday night.
On the other hand, Meira Paibi members of Kamong, Khajiri Maning, Awangjiri and Heikrujam Khabi formed a 10-km human chain on Monday, demanding the protection of Manipur's territorial integrity.
According to a mem-ber of Kamong Nupi Cha-okhat Thourang Lup, the demonstration was carried out along with women's organisations and Meira Paibi members of the said areas.
The demonstrators questioned why the central government is allowing the violence to continue, espe-cially when involvement of militants under So0 and Burmese mercenaries has been authenticated.
They further demanded the im-plementation of NRC in the state, while alleging the rul-ing party and its advisors are scheming to wipe out the two communities involved.
Meira Paibi Lup of Chin-gamakha Ningthoujam Leikai, Yanglem Leikai and Maisnam Leikai also organ-ised sit-in protest on Tuesday demanding implementation of NRC, termination of So0 agreement, disqualification of 10 Kuki MLAs, and protec-tion of Manipur's territorial integrity among others.
