KMA urges GoI to deescalate violence in Manipur

Korea Manipari Associ-ation (KMA) met with Ambassa-dor of India to South Korea at the Embassy of India inSeoul, South Korea on Tuesday and submit-ted a memorandum appealing for peace and resolution of the communal conflict in Manipur.
In the memorandum, KMA president Prof Nahakpam Bidhan in association with Global Manipur Federation (GMF) urged Government of Indiaas a principal stakeholder to respond promptly and ade-quately to de-escalate violence by controlling the armed Kuki militants and their allies namely Chin-Mizo terrorists who are infiltrating from Myanmar.
The other demands included to rearrange and recheck the recent deployment of the cen-tral armed forces in Manipur in order to discontinue the killings and destruction of property of the defenceless Meetei villag-ers in and around the foothills, end involvement of the Assam Rifles immediately and their human rights violation upon the Meeteis civilians by immediate withdrawal of AR from Mani-pur, make National Highway 2a safe road and allow free move-ment of vehiclesby preventing the continuous violent attacks from the armed Kukis and the rioters in Kangpoki area.
KMA further asked the state and central governments to act instantly on the armed infiltra-tors crossing the indo-Myanmar border and creating havoc to the lives of peacefully living inhab-itants at foothills of Manipur and put an end to unchecked mass deforestation and poppy cultivation in hills of Manipur with widespread involvement of the drug cartels and armed infiltrators, a drug smuggling hub to various corners of the country and beyond.
Central and state govern-ments need to act immediately on relief measures including compensation to families of the deceased, reconstruction of houses, resettlement of the displaced people to their original locations by bringing peace, harmony and trust between both communities, it added.
"Nothing will be normal until and unless these displaced fam-ilies could eventually settle at their original locations where they have been living," it said.
KMA further appealed for implementation of National Register for Citizens (NRC) in Manipur at the earliest possi-ble time.
