Imphal, June 06 2023:
Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has convened a mega public meet at lboyaima Shumang Leela Shan-glen, Palace Compound, Imphal on Wednesday from 7 to 11 am.
Informing this during a press conference at its Uripok office here on Tuesday, COCOMI coordinator Jeetendra Ningomba said the mega public meeting will deliberate on the prevailing situation in the state and chalk out future course of action to safeguard the territorial integrity of Manipur.
The evolving situation necessitates the public meet as a huge public voice is needed to draw global attention in order to curb the violence and restore peace and normalcy, he said while urging the general public to participate in the meeting.
During the meeting, COCOMI will also bring up a proposal to the government to set up a memorial site for those, who gave their lives in protecting the state's integrity and it is also the duty of the govern-ment to recognise their sacrifices.
He further asked the Government of India not to remain as a silent spectator to the terror activities unleashed on the common people by Kuki militants, who have resorted to narco-terrorism activities.
Though the state government is taking up measures to control the violence, it is not satisfactory.
The government needs to identify the enemies of the state and take up actions against them.
Letting the violence continue for longer period without flushing out the infiltrators would only mean further harm to the state's social fabric and lives of the state natives, he said.
COCOMI media coordinator Somorendro Thokchom acknowledged that the state gov-ernment is against the SoO militants.
Simi-larly, the public are demanding the Central government to terminate SoO agreement.
However, the Centre is still reluctant to ter-minate the agreement even though Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists from across the border have infiltrated the So0 militants and are carrying out violent activities.
Unless the Central government reviews the operation and functioning of Assam Rifles, the public resentment against the force will only grow, which might lead to serious repercus-sion, he cautioned and appealed to the people of the state to participate in Wednesday's public meeting and take a united stand against the terror activities of Chin-Kuki militants.
