Education Minister L Jayantakumar today announced that under the One Laptop Per Child Project, students of selected schools would be provided laptops starting from April this year.
The Minister was speaking at the occasion of distributing prizes to the winners of 6th State Level Mathematics and Science Competition, 2009 at DM College of Science here today.
The function was organised under the aegis of Social Development and Reformation Society, Pourabi.
Jayantakumar, who was the chief guest of the function, further observed that organising more and more mathematics and science competition at the State level would be helpful to the students.
The Minister said that in the eyes of the Government, there is no difference between the private schools or the Government schools.
Providing proper education to the students in time is the primary objective of the Government.
So for the first phase of the One Laptop Per Child Project which is to be taken up as a pilot project for the first time in Manipur by the School Education Department, students in the selected schools would be provided laptops with effect from April this year.
The laptops would be compulsorily given to all the students in model schools of the Government.
The Minister, however, did not elaborated on the number of students and the schools that would be covered under the first phase of the One Laptop Per Child project.
Maintaining that school education is very essential for the personality development of any person, the Minister explained that if all the students can get proper education, we can expected to have a developed society.
Lack of education and knowledge has led to numerous problems in the society, he added.
