Imphal, March 28 2010:
The Manipur University Tribal Students' Union (MUTSU) has deplored the undue delay in the process of land acquisition for construction of Indira Gandhi National Tribal University at Makhan, Sadar Hills division of Senapati district.
Recalling that Chief Minister O Ibobi himself inaugurated IGNTU Centre on September 9 last year, the MUTSU, in a press release, pointed out that IGNTU Vice-Chancellor Amarkantak sent reminders to the State Govt twice on February 17 and June 13 last year to complete the land acquisition process.
It also reminded of its memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister on January 28 this year to complete the same process at the earliest so that academic sessions can be commenced by April this year.
However, the land acquisition process is still kept pending.
Saying that the Government of India has completed all the necessary clearance on their part, MUTSU asked as to why this process of acquiring a small piece of land taking so long.
Questioning the efficiency of the State Government, MUTSU appealed for completion of the land acquisition process at the earliest so that commencement of academic activities take place in time.
It also asked about the Combined Preliminary Examination conducted by the Manipur Public Service Commission way back on September 21, 2008 for recruitment of various posts.
Further delay in declaring the results will leave many aspiring candidates dejected as they will cross maximum age limits.
Failure of the Govt to come up with positive response will compelled MUTSU to stage various demonstrations together with like minded student bodies, civil organisations and NGOs, it cautioned.
