Imphal, August 22 2022:
Shiv Sena, State unit president M Tombi has said that the State could earn a revenue of about Rs 300 crore annually if the ban on liquor placed by some organisations in Manipur is lifted.
He made the statement during a felicitation ceremony of seven people who recently joined Shiv Sena at Babupara today.
At the function, M Tombi continued that it would be right for the Government to hold dialogues with the organisations which are opposed to lifting the prohibition on liquor in Manipur as the 'ban doesn't serve any purpose' other than hindering revenue collection.
It is time for the State Government to regulate the liquor brewing process in Manipur so as to ensure the safety of public health, he said and opined that if the Government fixes the alcohol content and only select- ed people are allowed to brew liquor, deaths caused by alcohol consumption can be reduced substantially.
Lauding Chief Minister N Biren for the War on Drugs campaign, he assured that Shiv Sena will extend all possible assistance to root out drug menace from the State.
Claiming that liquor is widely available in the State while North AOC has become a hub of drug trade, M Tombi urged the State Government to examine why the rate of drug trade and abuse is increasing in Manipur despite seizing narcotic and psychotropic substances almost everyday.
On local body and ADC elections, M Tombi said that Shiv Sena is ready to sponsor certain candidates for the election but priorities will be given to people belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Muslim.
Those who win the local body elections on the party ticket will extend support to the State Government,
he added.
