Imphal, December 14 2014:
In a bizarre incident, a pharmaceutical dealer here received steel utensils instead of medicines sent through India Post.
According to Leibakpokpa Agency proprietor Laishram Birchandra, his agency has been receiving life saving drugs from a Dehradun based pharmaceutical company, East African (India) Overseas since the past five years.
For December, the company sent them anti-biotic and pain killer drugs worth Rs 1.10 lakh through Speed Post, Birchandra said and added that the docket number of the said cargo was EV 531429460 and Speed Post invoice number was 3552 .
However, when they opened the cargo on December 11, it turned out to be steel utensils instead of drugs, he added.
The proprietor added that they took the photographs of the opened cargo post and put the matter before East African (India) Overseas.
However, the company told them that they did not send utensils but drugs, he added.
Later, when they made an enquiry at Imphal Head Post Office, the Post Master allegedly told the representatives of Leibakpokpa Agency that it was not their fault and such things happen quite often.
Maintaining that the matter must not be taken lightly, Birchandra said that the authority concerned must investigate it thoroughly and take up necessary measures to check this menace.
