Kangpokpi, December 14 2014:
Hope for medical assistance turned out to be worthless as there was no doctor to treat the dying victim and injured patients at Paomata PHC on December 12 .
Not enough, even the new ambulance at the PHC was without any fuel as the medical officer failed to avail any fund to buy fuel.
Peeved over the absence of medical doctors, the mob ransacked the PHC's window panes, some furniture and doors, but timely intervention of the Police, Assam Rifles, Public leaders averted further destructions, informed a source.
The agitated mob appealed to the district administration and concerned officials to look into the matter seriously and to provide doctors 24x7 which is a must to save lives.
A tragic accident on Friday killed two persons and injured four 3 kms away from Tunggam Afii Village under Paomata sub-division.
The deceased were identified as Arow aged 36 years and Sanii Soso aged 45 years.
The Tata sumo with registration number NL-0IL-1270 was returning back from a picnic with ten members and was reportedly crossing a bridge when it collapsed upon reaching the middle section of the bridge killing one person on the spot and injuring the other four.
A person succumbed to his injuries at the Paomata PHC, triggering violence against the absence of Doctors.
Meanwhile, the Tunggam Union has condemned the absence of the doctors who were supposed to treat the accident victims.
The victims had to be rushed to Mao CHC.
Resented over the utter negligence of the posted doctors, the Union stated that repeated phone calls were made by many villager leaders and union officials, but the two doctors never attended their calls and reported for duty in such a situation.
Such irresponsible attitude of the doctors cannot be accepted and seriously needs to be addressed by concerned authorities, it stated.
The Tunggam Union has also alleged that, a lady doctor posted at the Paomata PHC in the presence of Chief Medical Officer and Local leaders flatly claimed that she cannot attend duties 24x7 .
Demanding immediate suspension of the concerned lady doctor by the concerned authorities, the Tunggam Union warned that it will be forced to launch agitations accordingly for which the Department and Administration will be held responsible.
