Imphal, December 14 2014:
The Thoubal Dam affected families have strongly protested against the move of the government of Manipur to ban their manual work in the Thoubal River.
The only means of earning for a livelihood of around 2000 hills and valley peoples from more than 40 villages far and near were mercilessly curtailed by the construction of Thoubal dam, said a release by Thoubal Dam Effected Down Stream Senmi Lup Committee.
The Committee has appealed to the concerned authorities and the State Government to look into the matter seriously either by giving appropriate compensation to the affected families or allowing them to continue with their normal work as usual at the earliest.
