Kangpokpi, December 14 2014:
Hope to find medical assistance and save lives at hospital turned out to be a worthless effort as there was no doctor to treat the dying victims and injured patients at Paomata PHC on December 12 .
The inconvenience did not end there as the new ambulance of the PHC was found without any fuel as the medical officer did not have any fund to buy fuel.
As such, the injured persons were rushed in a privately hired vehicle.
Peeved over the absence of doctors, a mob ransacked the PHC's window panes, some furniture and doors but timely intervention of the police, Assam Rifles and public leaders prevented the mob from further destruction, informed a local source.
The agitated mob appealed to the district administration and officials concerned to look into the matter seriously and and ensure that doctors are available 24x7 which is a must to save lives.
On December 12, a tragic accident killed two persons injuring another four persons at a place located around 3 kms away from Tunggam Afii village under Paomata sub-division.
The deceased persons have been identified as Arow (36) and Sanii Soso (45) .
Ten persons were returning home in a Tata Sumo (NL-0IL-1270) from a picnic party.
A bridge on the way collapsed when the vehicle reached the middle of the bridge killing one person on the spot and injuring four others.
Another person succumbed to his injuries at Paomata PHC which triggered a violent mob against the absence of doctors.
Meanwhile, the Tunggam Union condemned the doctors who were away from their place of duties.
The injured persons had to be rushed to CHC Mao as there was no dotor to attend the accident victims.
Expressing resentment over the negligence of the doctors, the union stated that repeated phone calls were made by many village leaders and union officials but the two doctors never attended their calls.
Such irresponsible attitude of the doctors cannot be accepted and it must be dealt with seriously by the authorities concerned, it stated.
The Tunggam Union also alleged that a lady doctor posted at Paomata PHC in the presence of Chief Medical Officer and local leaders flatly claimed that she cannot attend patients 24x7 triggering resentment among the villagers.
Demanding immediate suspension of the lady doctor, the Tunggam Union has warned that it would launch any form of agitation if this demand is not fulfilled.
