Driver, handyman abducted for ransom, two KNLF suspects held

Imphal, December 14 2014:
In a daring act of crime, two tribal women who hired a Tata Magic passenger vehicle from Pallel Bazar Parking, abducted driver and handyman of the vehicle and subsequently served a monetary demand of Rs 3 lakh as a price of their safe release.
The Tata Magic vehicle bearing registration no MN01L-5485 was hired by the two women from Pallel Bazar Parking to be transported up to Uripok Cheirap Court on November 29 at around 1 pm.
The abducted driver and the handyman have been identified as Md Yaas Khan (21) s/o Md Maniruddin of Sora Mamang Leikai and Md Salim Khan (19) s/o Md Ayub Khan of Sora Awang Leikai respectively.
At a time when family members of the driver and the handyman were trying to locate whereabouts of the duo, Kuki National Liberation Front (KNLF) organization served a monetary demand of Rs 3 lakh to owner of the vehicle identified as Md Maniruddin (45) of Sora Mamang Leikai on November 30 .
Subsequent upon the monetary demand made by the outfit, owner of the vehicle filed a report at Kakching Police Station on December 2 .
The vehicle was recovered by troops of 7 Assam Rifles from Chirat village, Kangchup on December 2 along with the arrest of two KNLF cadres.
The arrested cadres have been identified as Paominthang Mangte (23) s/o Chungjalam Mangte of MC Moi village, Churachandpur and Chontilal Khongsai (24) alias John Lalboi s/o Lungti Khongsai of Geljang Kangchup Super.
They were handed over to Patsoi Police Station on the day of their arrest.
Patsoi police then handed over the duo to Sapermeina Police Station on December 3 .
Later, they were taken into custody by Kakching police and produced them before Chief Judicial Magistrate, Thoubal District.
The court remanded the duo to five days police custody for interrogation.
