The next Chief of the Army Staff, Lieutenant General VK Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, ADC, General Officer Commanding in Chief, Eastern Command, accompanied by Mrs Bharti Singh, President, Regional Family Welfare Organization, Eastern Command came to Manipur on March 3 on a two day visit.
The Army Commander was received by Lieutenant General NK Singh, AVSM, VSM, GOC, HQ 3 Corps and Major General C A Krishnan, Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) at Tulihal airport.
The GOC - in - Chief also interacted with his Excellency Shri Gurbachan Jagat, Governor of Manipur.
Later the General Officer proceeded to HQ IGAR (South), Mantripukhri and was briefed by Major General CA Krishnan, IGAR (South) on the security situation in Manipur.
The GOC- in- Chief lauded the efforts of the soldiers in fighting terrorism in the State and asked them to continue with the good work in a professional manner.
He also asked the IGAR (S) to provide all possible assistance to the populace in the true traditions of the Assam Rifles.
The GOC- in- Chief later visited 57 Mtn Divn at Leimakhong accompanied by GOC, HQ 3 Corps.
The Army Commander and his wife were received by Maj Gen DS Hooda, VSM**, GOC of the Division and Mrs Rashmi Hooda, Chairperson, Red Shield FWO at the helipad at Leimakhong.
Lt Gen VK Singh went to the Division Headquarters while Mrs Bharti Singh proceeded to DISHA to meet the young children there.
A PIB (DW) statement informed that the Army Commander reviewed the security arrangements in the State and was briefed by Maj Gen DS Hooda.
Remarking on the landmark operations conducted by the Division in the last one year, the Army Commander expressed his appreciation for a job well done.
He said, the effect of these successful operations successful operations reflected directly and positively in the current state of law and order being maintained in the State.
Lt Gen Singh also commented on the synergy which has been achieved between all the Security Forces operating in the State.
He added that this synergy is the result of the direct interaction between the leaders at the top level of these organisations which has led to the tangible results achieved in the recent months.
He complimented DS Poonia, Chief Secretary and the DGP of Police Y Joykumar, IPS, for the same.
After a night halt at Leimakhong, the Army Commander departed for Rangapahar Military Station.
