Three progressive farmers of Wangoi Thoudam Leikai in Imphal west district received words of appreciation and encouragement from state Governor, Gurbachan Jagat who visited the farms today along with Lady Governor Kiran Jagat.
Governor's inspection to the farms of P Manoabi, A Sanahal and L Dinamani of Wangoi Thoudam Leikai was accompanied by secretary to Governor, Dr RK Nimai, commissioner (horticulture) K Moses Chalai and in-charge technology mission, Manipur Kh Ratan.
The farms where the Governor and his accomplices visited are cultivating the crops like cabbage, cauliflower, onion and pea etc.
The Governor also held interaction with the three progressive farmers and asked about their net income, problem and other related matters, a press communiqu� of the Raj Bhavan said.
The governor learnt that there was an acute problem for shortage of water in the area.
However, he appreciated their efforts for taking up farming, he advised them to take up multiple cropping in order to raise their activities and help in state's economy.
He also asked the farmers to try to integrate their farms with poultry and cattle farms so that their income increases, the communiqu� added.
During the visit, commissioner (horticulture) Moses Chalai also expressed that government is considering providing a sprinkler ser per acre to the farmers so as to make up the shortage of water in farming.
He also apprised the Governor that 1500 farmers are given subsidies in kinds every year.
Sixty-five year old P Manaobi, a retired constable of Manipur Police, has been cultivating the crops like cabbage, cauliflower, onion, pea etc.
in his 1.5 hectares of land for the last around 10 years.
The seeds were provided by the department of horticulture and soil conservation.
The progressive farmer has been provided with one diesel water pump set, U-V films and one community tank with organic fertilizers, pesticides, fungicides with sprayers from technology mission.
One fabricated green house for off-season has also been provided for production of vegetables as well as nursery raising.
Forty-year-old Sanahal of the same locality with Manaobi, a master degree holder is also growing winter and summer vegetables for the last around four year in two hectares of land.
He is cultivating pea only during this season and getting help and assistances from the same department.
While, Longjam Dinamani (50) of the same locality is now cultivating cabbage and pea in his land of 1.25 acres with subsidy from the technology mission and earning an income of about Rs one lakh in a year.
