While one woman was killed in a fire mishap which also injured her husband, 20 houses were completely reduced to cinders in another inferno at Phaikok village, Ukhrul district reportedly caused by a wild fire.
A devastating fire broke out, apparently from an LPG cylinder leakage, in the kitchen of one Kh Joykishan alias Kishan (48) at Khoyathong Polem Leikai at about 1.30 am of March 4. The fire caused injuries to both Joykishan and his wife Liloni Devi.
Both of them were rushed to Shija Hospital but Liloni succumbed to the injuries at about 6.30 pm yesterday.
Joykishan is still undergoing treatment at the hospital.
On the other hand, a wild fire completely reduced 20 houses to cinders at Phaikok village in Ukhrul district, close to Indo-Myanmar border at about 2 pm yesterday.
In addition to the houses, granaries attached to the houses containing paddy have been destroyed completely.
However, there is no report of any human casualty.
MLA Danny Saiza, representatives of KSO Ukhrul and officials of the district administration would visit the village tomorrow to assess the destruction caused by the wild fire.
