Atleast five persons including a 5-year old boy were killed while several others sustained injuries in separate motor related accidents that took place before and during Yaoshang festival.
According to police, a Honda Activa borne youth died when he met with an accident near Soibam Leikai Citizen's Club under Imphal East district in the afternoon of March 3. The victim identified as Thoudam Ranjit (28) of Uripok Yambem Leikai first rammed into a cyclist and then collided with an autorickshaw.
He died on the spot.
At around 8.30 pm of March 2, a youth was killed while two others sustained injuries when the Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle collided with a mini truck at Thoubal Athokpam.
The deceased has been identified as Thokchom Seityajit (17) s/o Thokchom Deben of Heirok.
On the other hand, at around 9.30 am of March 27, a youth who was riding a bicycle was knocked down by a Tipper truck of BRTF at Merakhong under Patsoi Police Station.
The victim identified as Mayanglambam Manikhoi (19) s/o Ingocha of Ngairangbam Makha Maning Leikai was rushed to RIMS for treatment.
But he succumbed to injuries on the same day at around 7 pm.
On March 3, a 41-year old man was killed when a Honda Activa knocked him down at Keinou Thongkha at around 7.30 am.
The deceased has been identified as Maibam Roshan s/o Bimol of Keinou.
In another mishap, a 5-year old boy identified as Thoudam Agasson of Toubul Bazar was killed after being knocked down by a 2-wheeler at Toubul Bazar in Bishnupur district.
