General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Eastern Command, Lt Gen VK Singh had arrived at Imphal for a two-day State visit on March 3. According to separate press releases of PIB (DW) and IGAR (S), the GOC in Chief was accompanied by Mrs Bharti Singh, President Regional Family Welfare Organisation, Eastern Command.
Lt Gen VK Singh was received by 3 Corps GOC Lt Gen NK Singh and IGAR (S) Maj Gen CA Krishnan at Tulihal airport after which he proceded to the Leimakhong military bastion where he was welcomed by the GOC 57 Mountain Division Maj gen DS Hooda at the helipad.
As the Army Commander met Maj gen hooda, who briefed him on the prevailing security scenario Mrs Bharti interacted with the children of DISHA at Leimakhong itself.
Remarking on the landmark operations conducted by the Division in the last one year Lt Gen VK Singh expressed his appreciation for a job well done, the PIB (DW) release quoted while conveying of the Commander acknowledging that effect of these successful operations are being reflected directly and positively in the current state of law and order being maintained in the State.
The Commander also commented on the synergy which has been acheived between the security forces operating in the State, the release added.
Meanwhile, PRO IGAR (S) said the GOC-in-Chief, Eastern Command met Governor Gurbachan Jagat during his visit.
Later, the General Officer proceeded to Hqs IGAR (S), Mantripukhri and was briefed by Maj Gen CA Krishnan on security situation of the State.
The press release further said that the GOC-in-Chief lauded efforts of the soldiers in fighting insurgency in the State and asked them to continue with the good work in a professional manner.
Lt Gen VK Singh also directed the IGAR (S) to provide all possible assistance to the people in the true traditions of Assam Rifles.
The GOC-in-Chief later left for Leimakhong accompanied by GOC, Hqs 3 Corps.
Lt Gen VK Singh will assume the office of the Chief of Army Staff in the rank of general on April 1, added the release.
