Medical awareness, eye check-up camp held

Imphal, November 24 2022: Churachandpur Battalion of IGAR (South) conducted a medical cum awareness camp at Dongjang village in Churachandpur district on Thursday to aid the villagers access basic healthcare services.

The event commenced with an awareness lecture on Healthy Habits and Disease Prevention to sensitise the villagers about the basic hygiene issues and viral diseases including prevention tips, causes, symptoms and treatment, said a PRO IGAR (S) release, adding that medical team of Assam Rifles carried out screening and health check-up of 101 villagers of Dongjang and adjoining villages to assess and monitor their health status.

The event culminated with distribution of essential medicines to the villagers.

Meanwhile, Keithelmanbi Battalion of 9 Sector Assam Rifles under IGAR (South) along with Scarlet Eye Care, Thoubal and Armed Forces Ex-Serviceman Welfare Association (AFESA), Thoubal organised a free eye check-up camp at Chaoyaima School ground on Thursday.

According to PRO IGAR (S), around 200 persons, including students, ESM and villagers from Thoubal district attended the camp.

A prominent eye specialist Dr Lisham Surbala Devi and other staff from Scarlet Eye Care treated the patients and provided free medicine as well.

The camp included screening tests, distribution of free spectacles and phaco surgery for cataract patients.

Additionally, there was a free basic health checkup for all the participants.

The objective of conducting the camp was to promote awareness about common eye problems and its proper treatment to the populace.

The camp also emphasised the dissemination of information on various guidelines and schemes like CM's Health for All Scheme and Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.
