Code of conduct for college polls declared

The Monitoring Cell of College Students' Union Election 2021-22 has announced the code of conduct in connection with the upcoming election to student unions of 27 colleges.
Addressing a press meet held at the office of Students' Union of Kangleipak (SUK) on Thursday, Monitoring Cell convenor Rajesh Yumnam informed that in accordance with an order issued by the Director of University & Higher Secondary Education on January 11, the election to the student unions will be held on January 27.As such, the Election Code of Conduct has been effected from Thursday onwards.
Since the code of conduct has been effected, the candidates are allowed to campaign only inside the college campus.
Candidates can paste an A3 poster on .the notice boards of their respective colleges to help the voting students in identifying them.
However, any form of card, poster, exam routine, etc., serving as a form of identifying the candidates cannot be distributed or related activities carried out.
Conduct of house campaign or picking up voters on the polling day is not allowed.
In addition, any election related feast, tea party or distribution of food items is strictly prohibited.
Open debate and discussions will be organised to help the voters decide the capable candidates of their choice, he added.
The convenor continued that as long as the Election Code of Conduct is in effect, no form of study tour, picnic, cinema and charity show will be allowed to be organised or attended.
Students are prohibited from using any form of illegal substance includ ing alcohol and addictive substance both inside and outside the college campus during the campaign period.
Students are further restricted from campaigning in colleges other than their own.
Entry for official reasons, which have nothing to do with the polls, will be exempted from the above restriction.
Presentation of gift items and money is also strictly prohibited.
"The candidates and other students are restricted from involving in activities which could lead to-possible fights.
Students who want to contest the polls can submit a request in writing to represent a single student body.
Furthermore, the members of the Monitoring cell of College Students' Union Election 2021-22 and that of the organisation concerned cannot be the candidate, inner agent, proposer, seconder and counting agent", he elaborated.
Candidates are also barred from spending the nights at the offices of student bodies until the elections are over.
Any candidate found violating the aforementioned code of conduct will be asked to drop their candidature by the Monitoring Cell.
If a candidate is found to have won the election while violating the code of conduct, he/she will be asked to resign immediately.
Additionally, there will be strict adherence of Covid-19 SOP during the election period.
Voters without face masks will not be allowed to cast their votes, Rajesh conveyed.
