Three accused in forced elopement case arrested

Imphal, January 13 2022:
Police on Wednesday arrested three people involved in the forced elopement of a girl on December 12 .
The arrested trio, namely Rk Master (34), son of Rk Sanajaoba of Mayang Imphal Konchak; Amom Soman (40), son of Amom Ibungo; and Ningthemcha ningol Landhoni, wife of Moirangthem Mohen of Mayang Imphal Konchak Mamang Leikai, were produced before the court of CJM Imphal West on Thursday and consequently remanded to police custody for five days.
As the three pleaded for anticipatory bail, the Imphal West sessions judge conducted bail hearing on December 31 and announced rejection of the bail applications on January 7 .
Subsequent to the rejection, the trio had gone into hiding before their arrest on Wednesday.
It may be mentioned here that the victim girl told her family that she was forcefully eloped on December 12 when she was brought home by the boy's family as per customs a day after the alleged elopement.
Subsequently, the girl lodged a complaint at Singjamei Police Station stating that she was forcefully eloped by Rk Master.
Moreover, Amom Soman and Moirangthem ongbi Landhoni helped in the forced elopement.
They detained, beat and even threatened her, the girl mentioned in the complaint.
Taking serious note of the matter, Singjamei PS registered a case against the three people under section 366, 342, 354, 34, 511 and 376 of IPC.
