Moreh seeks repair of defunct solar lamps

While most of the solar street lamps installed at various localities of Moreh town for convenience of public movement have become defunct, several solar plates and bulbs have been stolen, thereby leaving most areas of the town in complete darkness whenever there is power outage.
At least 60 solar street lamps were installed by MANIREDA at different localities of Moreh town but many of them have remained defunct for almost two months now several others have been stolen.
The department concerned has acknowledged the defective and stolen solar lights but it is yet to take any action till date, stated Manipuri Muslim Council Moreh (MMCM) secretary Md Firoz on behalf of all communities of Moreh.
According to Md Firoz, most of the 60 solar street lamps installed at different localities of Moreh town by MANIREDA remained defunct since April 24 this year and some solar plates and bulbs have been stolen by miscreants taking advantage of darkness.
Miscreants have stolen two solar plates and bulbs from Moreh Ward No.6 Tali Road, one solar plate and bulb from Moreh Ward No 4 Premnagar Leikai and three solar plates and bulbs from Moreh Ward No 3, he informed, while adding that missing of solar plates and bulbs has reduced since the past few weeks after local youth volunteered to look after solar larpps after dusk.
He further informed that most of the solar lamps installed at Moreh Ward No.5 Labuk Leikai, Mayai Leikai, Makha Leikai and Moreh Ward No 6 Tali Road leading to Tamil temple, have become defective.
