State Handloom Expo 2022-23 begins

The State Handloom Expo-2022-23, which is being organised, by Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers and Handicraft Artisans' Co-operative Society Limited (AWASH), commenced from Wednesday at Urban Haat Nilakuthi.
The opening function of the handloom expo organised under the sponsorship of development commissioner for handloom, ministry of textiles, was attended by cooperative societies Manipur registrar Valentina Arambam as chief guest and AWASH president A Ronika as president while joint director (handloom & textiles) E Jiten, Weavers' Service Centre, Porompat deputy director HK Boro and National Handloom Development Corporation Limited officer in-charge Y Shantikumar were present as guests of honour.
People of Manipur should be proud of having indig enous handloom products since the early period, stated Valentina Arambam at the opening function and appealed to people of the state to respect and give importance to handloom.
Outsiders visiting Manipur want indigenous handloom products and they even procure handloom and handicraft products from the state for room decoration and other activities, she said and called for promoting handloom products while assuring that the department would help in its best capacity in promoting handloom.
She then urged handloom societies to work sincerely and do the needful.
In his address, Joint director E Jiten said that indigenous handloom products need to be standardised to attract buyers from outside.
He then urged weavers and artisans of the state to make their products more attractive than their counterparts in other states.
Altogether 60 stalls are being Opened at the expo, which will continue till June 23 .
