GOC cherishes launch of 'Agni path' Scheme

The Agnipath scheme, which was approved by the Union Cabinet on Tuesday, will allow patriotic and motivated youth to serve in the Armed Forces for a period of four years, 57 Mountain Division Leimakhong GOC Major General Navin Sachdev stated in a press conference held at Leimakhong auditorium on Wednesday.
GOC Navin Sachdev said that the youth selected under this scheme will be known as Agniveers.
The scheme will provide an opportunity to the young talent from the society who are more in tune with contemporary technological trends and keen to don the uniform, to serve the country for 4 years.
As for the Armed Forces, the average age profile would come down by about 4-5 years.
Through this scheme, it will allow the nation to benefit by infusion of highly inspired, disciplined youtn with inculcation of patriotism, teamwork, enhancement of physical fitness, ingrained loyalty for the country and availability of trained personnel to boost national security in times of external/internal threats and natural disasters.
"This is a major defence policy reform introduced by the government to usher in a new era in the human resource policy of the three services," he added.
He then said that Agniveers recruited under this scheme will be given an attractive customised monthly package along with Risk and Hardship allowances as applicable in the three services.
On completion of the engagement period of four years, Agniveers will be paid one time 'SevaNidhi' package of Rs 11.71 lakh.
They will also be provided with a non-contributory life insurance cover of Rs 48 lakh.
After completion of the engagement period, around 25 per cent of Agniveers would be required to serve for a further engagement period of minimum 15 years, subject to their performances and detailed examination of records.
For the remaining 75 percent, the four-year service period would be of assistance While pursuing their preferred professions, other works or entry into Central Armed Police Force.
In all, 46,000 Agniveers will be recruited this year and the eligible age will be in range from 17.5 to 21 years, the GOC conveyed.
