Imphal, July 29 2021:
All India Tanzeem-E-Insaaf (AITI) Manipur State Council has questioned the used of Imphal Barrage and Regulator Dam above Turel Ahanbi if they are unable to solve the problem of water faced by the farmers.
In a statement issued today, AITI said the Imphal Barrage was a result of the projects taken up by MPP led Government following the drought of 1972 and to stop relying and waiting for the monsoon to start agricultural activities.
During the initial years after the completion of the projects, people in and around the dam and barrage availed the benefits of the projects with irrigation facilities that enabled the supply of water to the fields even during lean season.
However, the Government that followed have neglected and left the dams and the barrage in ruins, alleged AITI in the statement.
Even after repeated complains by the farmers to the Government and concerned departments, only assurance have been given on many occasions, but those remains to be fulfilled yet, added the statement.
AITI added in the statement that the farmers in the area are unable to start agricultural activities due to scanty rainfall.
This has added another problem for the farmers despite the ongoing pandemic problem.
AITI appealed the Government to look after the issue and do the needful in order to solve the problems faced by the farmers.
