Legal awareness / interaction prog held

Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) conducted an online legal awareness cum interaction programme for the inmates and officials of Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa on Thursday.
In a release, MASLSA stated that the programme was attended by MASLSA member secretary Ojesh Mutum, deputy member secretary Sorokhaibam Sadananda and Sajiwa Jail SP S Touthang.
During the programme, Ojesh Mutum talked on the need for taking up measures to stop Covid-19 infection amongst the prisoners.
He also highlighted the orders passed by Supreme Court of India and steps taken up by NALSA in this regard.
SP S Touthang highlighted various problems faced by the jail authorities in connection with containing Covid-19 and the action taken by them with regard to ensuring the rights of the inmates, it added.
MASLSA informed that during the programme, discussions were held on functioning of jail legal aid clinic in online mode, court processes, timely updating of prisoner database management portal of MASLSA, vocational training for prisoners, plans for Covid-19 management in the jail, rights of prisoners, organising of awareness programme on Covid prevention and responses, medical facility and regular Covid-19 testing of inmates and jail staff.
The programme held with an aim to facilitate communication between jail legal aid clinic, jail official and inmates was participated by 20 people including jail inmates, officials, staffers of Sajiwa jail legal aid clinic and PLVs.
