Assistant Prof Shantibala selected for Sahitya Akademi award

Assistant professor Koijam Shantibala has been selected for Sahitya Akademi Award 2022 for her poetry book 'Leironnung' .
Born in 1960 at Khurai Lamlong Keithel in Imphal East district, Shantibala is now serving as assistant professor at Manipur University Manipuri department.
She has published several poetry books in Manipuri (Bengali script), Hindi and English languages.
Some of her mentionable works in English language include 'The Borderlands of Asia' published by Cambria Press, USA; 'Thunder, Wind in Reeds & Delta' published by The Seawaves Manipur; and 'Dazzling Dewdrops' published by Leikol Manipur.
She also had her poems published in several publications based in Bangladesh and New Delhi.
Some of her books in Manipuri language include Mitkhumphi (poetry), Tal Taret (children's play), Theatre Amadi Sahityagee Wareng Khara (critical analysis), Thoibi Devi (monograph), Pallon Wangma (poetry) and Manipuri Seirengda Nationalism Amasung Atei Wareng Khara (compilation).
She is a member of Manipuri language advisory board of Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, and treasurer of Cultural Forum Manipur.
She is associated with several literary organisations in the state and had served as general secretary of Ma nipuri Literary Society and joint secretary of Cultural Forum Manipur in the past.
Sahitya Akademi on Thursday announced its annual Sahitya Akademi Awards in 23 languages.
The list of winners includes seven poetry books, six novels, two short story books, three plays, two literary criticism and one each of autobiographical essay, collection of articles and liter ary history.
BS Rajkumar, Konjengbam Hemchandra and Dr Pushpa Sharma are the jury members for Manipuri language.
The award, which is in the form of a casket containing an engraved copper plaque, a shawl and Rs 1 lakh in cash, will be presented during an award presentation ceremony to be held on a later date.
