Imphal, December 22 2022:
The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has sought immediate intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the alleged PMGSY scam of Rs 1700 crore.
A team of Congress leaders headed by MPCC president K Meghachandra and AICC Manipur in-charge Bhakta Charan Das submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Giriraj Singh at New Delhi today.
The same memorandum sought a CBI enquiry into the alleged PMGSY scam of Rs 1700 crore in Manipur.
Saying that they have inspected Galkapot to Gamui road (package nos 3101 and 3102) in Churachandpur district, Soukhapteng to Nungnang-I road (package no MN 7151), Noney to Nungnang road (package nos MN07123, MN07124 and 7241) in Noney district and Sampui to Phungyar road (package nos MN09152 and MN0985) in Kamjong district, the MPCC expressed strong suspicion that PMGSY funds worth Rs 1700 crore had been already taken away in connivance with the Minister concerned, Chief Engineer, officials, contractors, companies and middlemen without constructing roads.
Claiming that it was blatant corruption and organised loot of public money, the MPCC demanded a CBI enquiry into the PMGSY road scam of Rs 1700 crore.
The memorandum further demanded dropping of Minister(s) concerned and/or involved in the scam from the Council of Ministers during the pendency of the CBI enquiry.
Registration of FIRs against Minister(s), Chief Engineer(s), officials, contractors, companies, middlemen and any other person involved in the scam was another demand raised by the Congress through their memorandum.
It also demanded recovery of the entire amount which was withdrawn in the name of PMGSY works without executing the works on ground.
Blacklisting of the contractors and/or companies involved in the scam for a minimum period of 10 years was another demand made by the MPCC.
It also asked for release and uploading of detailed geo-tagged, non-edited and full video coverage of the full length of all the roads constructed or which are under construction in Manipur on the relevant Government website and Youtube for wider information to the people of the State.
The memorandum further urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Giriraj Singh to ensure that all Centrally sponsored schemes and Central schemes implemented in Manipur are monitored with ground reality check with feedback from locals and concerned citizens and complaints made by common people through local media, social media and other platforms.
