NG College celebrates 52nd foundation day

The 52nd Foundation Day celebration cum statue unveiling ceremony of NG College was held at the jubilee hall of the college located at Lamphelpat in Imphal West district on Thursday.
Speaking as chief guest on the occasion, MAHUD minister Y Khemchand called the founder of the college, Nongmeikapam Gopal Singh, as the backbone of education and society.
The college is a gift to the society from him.
He was also one of the founding members of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, which was established in 1935 .
"I pay my sincere tribute for his foresight in doing things", he said.
Khemchand also said that the government will try to include science course as proposed by former principal of the college.
"We need to pursue the matter seriously so that it gets implemented.
I will try my best to help and find amicable solution to the matter", he said.
Former principal of the college L Manglemba narrated the works and life of the founder and said that the college is an offshoot of a meeting held on May 5, 1969, which gave birth to the erstwhile 'City College' in 1970 as a night college at Tombisana High School.
On the June 26, 1972 the then 'City College' was rechristened as 'Nongmeikapam Gopal College' .
It was upgraded to a full-fledged government college on January 1, 1980 and is now affiliated with Manipur University and recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under UGC Act, 1956 .
Today, NG College has become an NAAC accredited college with CGPA 2.43 (B-grade) .
A peer team of three members from UGC visited the college on March 8 and 9 this year, and assessed the status and standards of the college for NAAC qualification.
Consequent to the assessment, the college has become NAAC accredited since March 15, 2022.College principal Ashok Roy Choudhury presided over the function while former deputy chief minister Y Joykumar Singh and Nongmeikapam Khol-chandra, a family member of the college founder, attended as guests of honour.
