National Mathematics Day observed

National Mathematics Day, 2022 was observed today at the Manipur Science and Technology Council (MASTEC) complex at Takyelpat.
Various awards were presented to many individuals during the programme which was organised by MASTEC Department of Science and Technology Director Homila Hongrei; MASTEC Director Dr L Minaketan and Professor S Dorendrajit of the Department of Physics, Manipur University graced the event as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
With regards to the significance of National Mathematics Day, Homila Hongrei said that the day is observed to commemorate the birth anniversary of the great Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan and to raise awareness among the public about the importance of Mathematics.

Stating that Mathematics is an interesting and beneficial subject, she maintained that one can derive numerous benefits by practising Mathematics regularly.
She further stated that it is high time to ensure that the students start practising Mathematics regularly to overcome the fear which has been associated with Maths.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Minaketan highlighted the need to practice Maths by the students in particular to be well acquainted with this subject.
He went on to inform that MASTEC will be observing National Science Day on February 28 .
In connection with the observation, a number of activities will be conducted in the interest of the students for five days including science model competition, IT show and virtual interaction programmes with scientists from the State who are working in prestigious institutes across the country.
As a part of the programme, Dr Ibeyaima Innovation Award, 2022 was presented to Jina Khumujam of Khurai Thoidingjam Leikai; Dr Wangkheirakpam Sujata of NIT Manipur and S Gita Devi of Gita Cocoons Fancy Centre, Khurai Thoidingjam Leikai for their innovative initiatives.
The award is donated by Manipuri Association of Canada (MAC) .
Meanwhile, the State Science Communicator Award, 2022 was awarded to Dr Oinam Joychandra of Shija Academy of Health Sciences, Langol.
Also prizes were distributed to the winners of Mathematics Written Quiz conducted by MASTEC.
