Sportswoman among accident victims

The warden of Thambalnu Higher Secondary School, who was among those killed in the Tubung bus accident, grew up as a promising sportsperson and had many medals under her belt.
According to reports received from her family, Konjengbam Mitkhubi had in her career won many state and national medals in the field of athletics.
She had won the under-20 walking race (10 km) at the 23rd Manipur state age group athletic championship 2001-2002 organised at Khuman Lampak main stadium by Amateur Athletic Association, Manipur and also topped the 5000 metre race at the 13th ITC inter zonal junior athletic championship 2001 organised by UP Amateur Athletic Association.
She also secured the 3rd position in 5000 metre race at the 15th inter-state junior athletic championship 2000 organised by Tamil Nadu Amateur association.
In 2000, at the 13th east zone junior athletic championship held in Patna, she secured the 2nd position in 5km walk (18 years) in addition to winning the 2nd position at the 12th ITC inter zonal junior athletic championship 2000 in the 3 km walk race (under 16 years category).
She married Yumnam Premjit of Yairipok Top Chingtha Pukhri Achouba Mapal and was blessed with two children who are presently studying in class 10 and 12 respectively.
Her husband is a chowkidar at Thambalnu Higher Secondary school.
She was among those who lost their lives in the Longsai bus accident but her 4-year old nephew who was also in the same bus survived and is currently undergoing treatment at Raj Medicity.
