NG College celebrates 52nd foundation day

The 52nd foundation day celebration of NG College was held today at the Jubilee Hall of the College at Lamphelpat in Imphal West District.
On the occasion of the 52nd foundation day celebration, MAHUD Minister Yumnam Khemchand unveiled a bust of the founder of the College, Nongmeikapam Gopal Singh.
The attendees paid homage and floral tribute to the newly unveiled bust of the founder.
Speaking as the chief guest, Y Khemchand Singh lauded Nongmeikapam Gopal Singh for his significant contributions in the field of education and literature.
He also played a pivotal role in the establishment of Manipur Sahitya Parishad in 1935, the Minister added.

Y Khemchand also assured to appeal to the authorities concerned and extend best possible help from his end to add science subjects in the course curriculum of the college as proposed by the former principal of the college.
The ceremony was also attended by Y Joykumar Singh former Deputy Chief Minister; L Manglemba Singh, former Principal NG College; Nongmeikapam Kholchandra Singh, founder member NG College and Ashok Roy Choudhury, Principal of NG College as presidium members.
It may be noted that NG College was an offshoot of a solemn meeting held on May 5, 1969, which gave birth to the erstwhile "City College" in 1970 as a night college at the Tombisana High School.
On June 26, 1972 the then "City College" was rechristened as "Nongmeikapam Gopal College".
The college was converted to a full- fledge Government college on January 1, 1980 .
The college is now affiliated to Manipur University and is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) .
At present, NG College has become a NAAC accredited college.
