RIMS tastes success in treatment of cancer patient

Imphal, September 11 2022:
A 40-year old man diagnosed with cancer on right cheek including the lips and admitted to Plastic Surgery Ward, has been treated successfully at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) .
The patient underwent operation on September 7, 2022 in the newly inaugurated Modular Operation theatre of RIMS Hospital by a team of plastic surgeons headed by Dr Akoijam Ibohal Singh and assisted by Dr Pebam Manisana, Dr Nehar Sinam, Dr Manish Rajpurohit and Dr Sidharth Mandal.
The doctors took six hours to remove the cancerous tissues from the cheek, lips and neck.
Later on, the cheek and lips were reconstructed by a free flap taken from the left forearm (radial forearm flap) of the patient.
The general anaesthesia was administered by a team led by Dr Longjam Eshori Devi and Dr Ingudam Dilip Singh while M Pramod and Geetarani were the scrub nurses.
The patient was monitored under the strict supervision of anaesthesiologists in the Trauma ICU for a period of 4 days, and shifted to the first floor of the newly inaugurated Burn Unit.
The patient is a manual labourer by occupation and couldn't afford treatment outside Manipur, or at any private medical institution in the state, said a RIMS release.
