Locals block gas bottling plant road

Angry over ignoring the deplorable condition of the road leading to the Gas Bottling Plant located at Awang Sekmai Nongthonband, local residents have blocked the road indefinitely demanding the government to repair the road immediately.
Interacting with the media in this regard, Awang Sekmai Nongthonband Meira Paibi executive committee member Maharabam ongbi Isheihanbi said that the local women are resorting to blocking the road against the government's indifferent attitude towards their repeated appeals.
The road is an important route for the whole state and supplying of cooking gas for the whole state passes through this road.
They have been appealing for repairing the road over and over again but the government has been ignoring the situation so far, she said.
The last time the road was repaired was in 2014 following a uge public protest.
Since then, the government is ignoring the road despite the passage of numerous heavy trucks on daily basis.
Several road accidents have occurred due to the bad condition of the road.
They submitted written complaints to the local MLA, minister and department concerned in 2020 in connection with the deteriorating condition of road, which has also become a major cause of health hazard to the people due to the dusty condition.
They also organised sit-in protests on February 26 this year demanding repairing of the road by the end of March.
They are resorting to blocking the road since the government has failed to fulfil their demand, she added.
