Imphal, April 02 2023:
Loumee Kanglup, Lamphel, a farmers' body, has categorically stated that it will never allow conversion of paddy land in Lamphel area into polo ground under any condition and has vowed to fight on the matter.
Addressing media persons at its office, here, on Sunday, Kanglup general secretary Ibohal Meitei said that farmers have been cultivating paddy in Lamphel area to feed people since 1964 but an attempt has been made suddenly to convert the existing paddy fields into polo ground.
Conversion of paddy fields into polo ground is unacceptable as land for polo had already been allocated.
Farmers belonging to Loumee Kanglup Lamphel have been working hard since 1964 to make Lamphel area an arable land for producing crops.
The government had already reserved land for polo in Lamphel area but an officer, who is currently under suspension, registered paddy field adjacent to the polo ground in the name of a polo organisation which indeed is very unfortunate.
Registration of paddy land as homestead land is the main reason behind frequent clashes between All Manipur Polo Association and Loumee Kanglup Lamphel, he maintained, while adding that it is wrong to erect sign board prohibiting trespassing in the area as also destruction of hut and office of the farmers' body.
Demanding legal action against those involved in destruction of the hut and office of the farmers' body, Ibohal urged authority concerned to give directive to those involved in the vandalism for reconstructing the damaged hut and office.
