Congress MLA of Wangkhem AC Keisham Meghachandra has attributed the Government's inability to implement "Cine Policy" as the reason for the delay in advancement of Manipuri film.
The MLA made the statement at the commencement of "Two days National Seminar on Manipuri Film" held at Tampha Hotel, North AOC today.
It may be noted that the seminar was sponsored by North Eastern Council (NEC), Government of India and organised by Regional Centre for Cultural Heritage (RCCH), Manipur.
Speaking on the occasion, Keisham Meghachandra said that during Congress rule in Manipur, the State Government had nearly finished drafting the State Cine Policy to support artists and hasten the development of Manipuri films.

Calling the non-implementation of the Cine Policy "unfortunate", he added that the policy contains many measures and steps recommended by experts for the betterment of artists and Manipuri films.
He also expressed disappointment over the State Government's failure to secure any funding for Manipuri films from the Central Government and commented that it is high time to discuss the steps necessary to secure Government funding and take up the appropriate steps to achieve this goal.
Addressing the gathering, Meghachandra Kongbam, Academic Council Member, FIPRESCI-India pointed out the low rate of financial and technological assistance secured from the North Eastern Council (NEC) by those involved in Manipuri films.
Out of the Rs 40 crore doled out by the NEC in funding the development of North East films, a major chunk is taken by Assam and Nagaland, he shared.
Meghachandra also urged the concerned people to apply to receive aid from the NEC, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and State Art & Culture Department.
Dignitaries present at today's function include K Radhakumar, president, Manipur Cultural Council; P Bilash, Director, Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy; Meghachandra Kongbam and N Ajit, Assistant Research Officer, NEC as presidium members.
