Imphal, April 02 2023:
Claiming that foreign Nationals have snuck into Keirao Constituency by obtaining Govern- ment documents fraudulently posing serious threat to the indigenes, a sit in protest was staged today at Thiyam Konjin demanding implementation of National Regis- ter of Citizens (NRC) in Manipur.
Thiyam Konjin falls under Chanam Sandrok Gram Panchayat of Keirao Constituency.
Placards which read "Penalise those who brought in outsiders fraudulently," "Implement NRC," and "Don't give our rights to outsiders" were put up for display during the protest.
Clubs and meira paibi organisations of Thiyam Konjin, Chanam Sandrok, Keirao Wangkhem, Lang-dum, Keirao etc have been carrying out verification drives since March 31 and at least nine foreign Nationals settled in the area-four at Chanam Sandrok and another five at Keirao were detected.

Speaking to the media, general secretary of Thiyam Konjin Awang Leikai Youth Club (TKWLYC) Tongbram Rajendro claimed that a former member of Chandam Sandrok GP provided residential certificates to nine foreign Nationals and listed them in the voters' list a few years back.
Claiming that the names of the foreign Nationals were also found enlisted in the beneficiary list of PM-JAY which covers a health insurance of Rs 5 lakh, he alleged that the non-locals have been robbing the rights of the genuinely poor populace of Chanam Sandrok by using fake Aadhaar cards and other documents.
He appealed to the Government to not spare anyone involved in preparing residential certificates for the foreign Nationals.
Rajendro cautioned that local clubs and meira paibis have resolved to ostracise the people who brought in foreign Nationals and gave residential certificates to them.
Further stating that Keirao Kendra is home to people of different backgrounds such as Maring, Chiru, Tangkhul, Kabui, Meitei and Muslim but no Kuki, Rajendro claimed that those who were found enlisted in the voters' list of the Constituency are all Kukis from abroad.
A collective effort is needed to save the indigenous people, he added.
Rajendro, on the other hand, said that they staged the protest to show their support to the student organisations and others who have been demanding implementation of NRC in Manipur.
He said that identification of non-locals who reside in Manipur against the rule of the law is necessary to save the indigenes.
The influx of outsiders to Manipur poses grave threat to the culture, identity and socio-economy of the indigenous people, Rajendro maintained.
