Imphal, March 29, 2014:
MPCC chief and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam on Saturday ridiculed political parties in Manipur, saying they only have enough party flags, but fewer supporters.
Gaikhangam was addressing a meeting of the party's Block Level Unit Committee organized by Mayang Imphal Block Congress Committee at Mayang Imphal, Imphal West.
He said that many political parties in the State are now seen gathering and contemplating on their separate election strategies for the ensuing Lok Sabha polls, but they will not gain much because they have fewer supporters although they have heaps of party flags.
These hopeful parties with their smaller number of supporters will get into a lot of trouble in fighting the crucial election, he said.
Gaikhangam, who also holds the additional charge of Home, renewed his attack on the State BJP unit, calling it a 'double standards' party.
He said that the BJP has promised fulfillment of the 'Alternative Arrangement' demand of the Nagas in the Outer Manipur Parliamentary constituency while the saffron party has assured protection of the State's territorial integrity in the Inner Manipur parliamentary constituency.
The MPCC president said that the proposed Alternative Arrangement clearly signifies a separate administration, and that the BJP is fooling the people with its assurance of raising the issue in the Parliament.
BJP this time has also arranged separate election manifestoes for the two constituencies, he noted.
The State Congress chief claimed that Congress always goes with the people and always put efforts to materialize its manifesto.
Addressing the meeting, INC candidate for the Inner constituency and sitting MP Dr T Meinya admitted that some works have been left undone in respect of the Outer constituency which is very large in term of size.
But still, he said, the Congress Government of the State is continuing with its development works.
He reassured that the territorial integrity of Manipur will be kept intact as long as the UPA Government is in power at the Centre.
Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar and MLA Mangibabu were also present during the meeting.
