The conference under the theme 'Prevention of Maternal Death' would continue till March 31 and many resource persons both from the State and outside would take part.

Former Director Dr N Kshiroda was the guest of honour.
Giving keynote address, organising chairman Prof N Nabakishore said that death of mothers during child delivery is a major issue at the international level.
In India, more than 100 mothers die during child delivery by one lakh mothers.
70 mothers die during child delivery by one lakh mothers in RIMS and JNIMS.
Even though the maternal mortality rate is declining, it demands a collective study on the part of paramedical staff, hospital authorities and the Government in order to bring the maternal mortality rate to the minimal level, he said.
Varun Mitra said that death of mothers during child delivery is a multi-sectorial issue.
This issue cannot be resolved by medical and para-medical staff alone.
It needs empowerment of women, and women and girls should be given nutritious food starting from childhood period.
Girls should be given proper education so that they can decide when would they become mothers.
He appealed to the gathering to bring out an action plan after the conference on what the Government need to do on order to reduce maternal mortality rate.
Prof Sekharjit said that women should keep themselves healthy in order to avoid death during child delivery.
Some of the major factors for death of mothers during or after child delivery are excessive bleeding, failure to go for medical check-up in time and heart problems, said Dr A Kshiroda.
Duties of a gynaecologist is not over after child delivery.
He/she should closely monitor whether the mother is bleeding or not, she added.
