Imphal, March 29, 2014:
Conceding that he cannot point out any significant work done for the public during the past 10 years as an MP, Congress candidate Dr Th Meinya has appealed to voters to give him another opportunity so that he can complete the unfinished works.
Dr Meinya was speaking at a block level meeting held at the residence of Works Minister K Ratankumar at Mayang Imphal Konchak.
The meeting was organised by Mayang Imphal Block Congress Committee.
"I cannot say I've done this remarkable work for the public," Meinya admitted.
"I tried my best to execute some public projects but the Government was more concerned with ethnic groups and minority welfare", Dr Meinya said while appealing to give him another opportunity in order to make up the shortcomings of the previous terms.
Saying that the ensuing Lok Sabha election would not be an ordinary election, Dr Meinya said that even though there was UPA-II Government at the Centre development works could not be executed speedily because of differences in policies and programmes of the coalition partners.
Despite these limitations, UPA-II Government was able to enact the Right to Information Act and Right to Education Act apart from successfully implementing Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Dr Meinya said.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam claimed that Dr Meinya has fulfilled some of the promises he made to voters.
The meeting held today was specifically organised to discuss Dr Meinya's campaign strategy.

Calling upon all the voters not to keep faith in parties which are habituated to hoodwinking the public, Gaikhangam said that the BJP candidates, if elected, would endorse the demand for alternative arrangement which may ultimately lead to creation of a Naga exclusive State.
Noting that BJP has been pledging to protect Manipur's territorial integrity in the valley, Gaikhangam asserted that BJP is known for doublespeak.
By bringing out two separate manifestoes after dividing Manipur into hills and valley, BJP is indulging broad day light robbery.
Saying that BJP has come out with contradictory agenda, one for hills and another for the valley, Gaikhangam appealed to voters to give their mandate after careful consideration.
Taking a dig at the CPI candidate, the Deputy Chief Minister said that the rival candidate is working with political parties which do not have any MLA or Pradhan.
Leaving aside one's ideology, the CPI candidate is seeking voters' support based on human relationship and clan affiliation.
Even though the CPI candidate is fighting the Lok Sabha election under a dozen flags of different political parties, he would not get much votes.
Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar, MLA T Mangibabu and many other party leaders too addressed the gathering.
