First-ever NE Traditional Music Fest held in Aizawl

The first ever North East Traditional Music Festival organised by All India Radio (AIR), Aizawl, was successfully held here yesterday.
The crucial cultural event, the first of its kind, was held at Vanapa Hall, the argest auditorium in Aizawl.
Cultural troupes comprising of singers, musicians and performing artists from all the seven states �Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura, except Sikkim, participated and showcased their traditional musical instruments, their traditional dances and songs.
Addressing the gathering of artists from all over the region, All India Radio, Addl.
Director General C.Lalrosanga said that radio and television are two important media through which the rich cultural heritage of the region.
Its colorful legacy has been showcased not only in the region but across the entire country and even onto the international arena, he added.
He also said that to save dying oral singing traditions of the region, AIR is embarking on an ambitious programme to store all such tapes in digital format so that future generations can access the rich musical history of the region and take pride in their cultural origins.

Director General also expressed his hope that the music festival will foster brotherhood and bring more closeness between the different communities in the North Eastern part if India.
Dilip Mayengbam, Head of Programme, AIR Aizawl, who also addressed the occasion, said that the programme is the first of its kind, and expressed his gratitude in that artistes from all the NE states expect from Sikkim could participate in it.
