Imphal, March 29, 2014:
Transport Department has started due process for requisition of vehicles which would be used by polling personnel and security forces in Outer Manipur P/C. A transport cell having five sections was opened at Palace Compound on March 24 and it has already started requisition of vehicles.
The transport cell has requisition section, receipt section, dispatch section, monitoring section and mechanical section.
In addition to the transport cell, a transport committee has also been constituted with the Transport Secretary as chairman to look into other requirements.
The transport cell opened at Palace Compound is making daily account of the number of vehicles requisitioned in a day and the number of vehicles dispatched so far.
Vehicles with mechanical defects would be repaired by the cell's mechanical section under the supervision of three inspectors.
Vehicles requisitioned for use by security forces are being parked in 1st MR complex.
According to an official of Transport Department, the vehicles requisitioned till date belong to Govt departments.
Light and heavy vehicles belonging to private individuals would also be requisitioned according to the requirement.
At the district level, DCs should requisition vehicles based on their requirements.
If the vehicles requisitioned by DCs fall short of the requirement, Transport Department would send vehicles.
DC's have sent proposals indicating the number of vehicles they would need from Transport Department.
For taking polling materials to interior polling stations of Senapati, Tamenglong, and Churachandpur, Transport Department would hire and send 80 Shaktiman trucks.
Due correspondence is also made between Transport Department and transport organisations so that vehicles can be requisitioned in groups without going to individual owners.
