Ukhrul, March 26 2015:
Against the backdrop of the contemporary society supposedly failing to grasp the challenges and ambiguity of change, the Zingtun Tangkhul Katam-nao Long (ZTKL-Western Tangkhul Students' Union) is gearing toward addre-ssing itself to the gravity of the scenario during its upcoming 30th General Conference cum Sports Meet to be held under the theme "Change Master" on 15-21 April 2015 at Seikhor Village in Western Ukhrul District.
Addressing a press meet at Viewland Ukhrul, ZTKL president AC Thotso said that: "Our present day society has miserably failed to cope with the current trend of change that is taking place before us and thus, for the most part, we fail to make use of the changing situations for our own benefits" .
"We feel compelled to find ways to make any change work for our development for we are living in fast changing times," he continued adding that ZTKL would be dealing with 'Change' as an all-encompassing entity during a brainstorming seminar which will be conducted as a part of the upcoming general conference.
Slated to focus on varied aspects of change ranging from spirituality to temporality, including education, culture and the like, the seminar will have the theme exposition by Chief Judge (Retd) WA Shishak, while TBCA executive secretary Rev Yarngam Muivah will explain on the topic 'Christian and Modernity' .
Further, the day-long deliberation will cover topics "Protection of land and Provision of Village Authorities Act 1956," "Our Response towards development," and "Power, Politics and Ideology: Interrogating Modern Educational Trends" explained by advocate Deniel Ramsan, project manager IFAD Tychicus Vashum and Associate professor JIU AC Kharingpam respectively.
Meanwhile, highlighting other features of the six-day mega event, Thotso informed that a beauty contest would be held with the theme of "Beyond Beauty." Explaining on the concept, he said that many people are mistaken about beauty pageant thinking that it is degrading morality of society but on the contrary, the fact is far from it.
"In fact, promoting it is much more than enjoying pleasant appearance, beauty pageant has its own role to play for the growth of our culture and tradition," he explained.
Other events like Inter tribe Cultural exchange, Inter village competitions in wrestling, tug of war, folk song and dance, choreography, sports, debate, and music and entertainment will also be witnessed during the upcoming conference, he added.
