Imphal, March 26 2015:
The All Manipur Hill District Contract Basis Teachers' Association (AMHDCBTA) staged a sit-in-protest today demanding their regularisation and give better attention to their welfare.
The protest was held at Keishampat junction, Imphal.
In the protest organised by the JAC of AMHDCBTA, one member L Angocha said that the contract basis teachers were appointed and engaged by the Directorate of Education (S) Hills under the MoU signed between the Government of Manipur and ATSUM in 2006 to cater to the educational needs of the hill schools.
At that time, the MoU clearly stated that the service of the teachers appointed will be utilised until the posts are filled up on regular basis through normal recruitment or special drive as the case may be.
After that, the service extension order of these teachers and payment of remuneration was made only upto 2008 and no extension order was further issued even though their appointment was carried out after due advertisement and getting finance memo from the Finance Department.
Angocha further said that the physical verification conducted by the Directorate concerned was declared genuine in November 2011.But it is quite unfortunate that the Government has been staying silent after that and added that there has been no concrete development.
Keeping the fate of the teachers, who have tirelessly rendered their service to develop education, uncertain is inhumane and this has caused immense trauma as many of them have become over-aged.
Later, he warned that the JAC will stage many forms of protest if the Government fails to address and bring an amicable solution with the JAC within April 4 .
