Imphal, March 26 2015:
The historical Royal Residence at Red Lands, Shillong, Meghalaya, once the temporary out-station abode of Maharaja Bodhachandra has been left in a dilapidated condition for so many years now.
Shillong Manipuri Students' Union (SMSU) has made a fervent appeal to the Manipur Government on Thursday to protect the residency which is one of the important structures that represented the Kingdom of Manipur.
The Royal Residence at Red Lands has remained in a disheveled condition for years and so it needs proper care from the Government of Manipur, SMSU president Sangba Huidrom demanded while talking to Hueiyen Lanpao.

He said the important site is one of the prides of the State and the country as well.
However, the present condition of the cottage sized residence is in a bad condition, he lamented.
One magnificent chair, a decorated bed formerly used by Maharaja Bodhachandra and some photographs inside the house are now only the remains of the past, he said.
"We want the Manipur Government to develop the structure as a tourist spot," Sangba said.
He said that almost half of the original land area of the house has been taken away by illegal encroachers.
He said the site once occupied by the Maharani (queen) of Manipur inside the compound is now nowhere to be seen.
Sports festival held .
SMSU president Sangba further said that the union organized sports festival and Thabal Chongba programme in Shillong on the just concluded occasion of Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba.
Blood donation camp, mathematics, science and drawing competition for Class X-VI will be organized by the union from April next, he informed.
He emphasized the importance of understanding the beauties of divergent cultures of the North East and living together by extending helping hand among them.
