Imphal, March 26 2015:
The State Vigilance Commission has recommended the State Government's high power committee headed by the Chief Secretary as chairman to recover more than Rs 24 lakh from an LDC for fraudulent withdrawal of public fund.
One LDC of Thoubal College withdrew GPF belonging to some staff of the college apart from claiming medical reimbursement for treatment of his son using forged documents, informed a source.
LDC Md Jaheruddin withdrew Rs 23,50,000 in November-December, 2004 using forged documents.
The GPF was withdrawn from the Thoubal branch of UBI, and this was detected in the course of investigation by the Vigilance Commission.
Subsequently, an FIR has been registered against the LDC.
The Manipur Public Servant Personal Liability Act was not applicable when the LDC withdrew the money fraudulently.
But after a new section was inserted in 2013 under which the State authorities were authorised to recover money swindled four years before the Act came into effect, the State Vigilance Commission recommended the high power committee to recover over Rs 24 lakh from the LDC.
In another case, the LDC claimed medical reimbursement amounting to Rs 1,41,152 using forged documents.
The high power commission has been recommended to recover this amount too, the source added.
