Tamenglong observes World Hepatitis Day 2022

District Health Society, Tamenglong on Friday observed World Hepatitis Day 2022 under the theme 'Bringing Care Closer to You - Hepatitis Can't Wait' at Shekinuh Inn, here.
The programme was organised by National Viral Hepatitis Control Programme as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
Tamenglong additional deputy commissioner Thangboi Gangte, chief medical officer Dr G Majachunglu and district tuberculosis officer Dr Guidiathiu Kahmei attended the programme as chief guest, functional president and guest of honour respectively.
In their brief speeches, Thangboi urged the gathering to avoid alcohol and drugs which cause Hepatitis and also stressed on the need to maintain good hygiene in everyday life while Dr Majachunglu explained about the type of Hepatitis and said if the eyes or skin are turning yellowish, it could be an early sign of Hepatitis.
The medical officer also advised all concerned to go for regular health check-up and advised pregnant women to get tested for Viral Hepatitis B as the facilities are already available at the District Hospital.
Hepatitis B and C testing are done free of cost at the District Hospital and so does the treatment, she added.
The CMO also noted that the actual date of World Hepatitis Day is on July 28 but it was observed on Friday as per the instruction of state government.
Resource person Dr Kamei Kaguilan, who is a medicine specialist at Tamenglong DH deliberated on Hepatitis A, B, C, D and E and cautioned the hepatitis patients should be careful about their diet, avoid alcohol and drugs.
