stage set for women's football semi-finals, L Rabina wins three Archery gold medals for Kakching
The semi-final line up of the Women's Football Tournament in the 2nd Manipur Olympic Games was completed today with Bishnupur, Imphal East, Imphal West and Kakching scripting comfortable wins at SAI Turf ground, Takyel today.
The second edition of the State Games featuring 34 sports disciplines was formally opened by Governor La Ganesan at Mapal Kangjeibung in the presence of Chief Minister, N Biren; Youth Affairs and Sports Minister, Govindas Konthoujam among others.

In the first quarter final match of the women's football tournament, Bishnupur crushed Chandel 8-0 as A Roja and M Nandeshwori scored two goals apiece.
A Roja opened the floodgate early in the opening minute itself before Vinginia of the Chandel conceded an own goal two minutes later to make it 2-0 .
O Babita then made it 3-0 after 5 minutes as the scoring spree continued and Th Sanjita scored the fourth goal for the team in the 11th minute before A Roja completed her double in the 13th minute.
Merylyn of the Chandel side conceded yet another own goal in the 15th minute to hand Bishnupur team an unassailable 6-0 lead.
M Nandeshwori the opened her account in the 25th minute to give Bishnupur team a 7-0 first half lead before completing her brace in the 53rd minute to ensure her team a 8-0 win over the wasteful Chandel side.
Later in the second match, Ch Binomala (12') and Ksh Naocha (46', 63') scored to hand Imphal West a 3-1 win over Churachanpur whose only goal was scored by Hoineihat in the 30th minute.
Imphal West will meet Bishnupur in the first semi-final match tomorrow from 1 pm.

Meanwhile in the third match, Ksh Margaret scored thrice (5', 8', 29') to hand Kakching team a 5-0 easy win over Kangpokpi.
The other goals came from H Daya (24') and H Linda Chanu (53') .
Kakching will play Imphal East women who edged out Thoubal 3-2 in the fourth quarter final match of the tournament, in the second semi-final match tomorrow from 3 pm.
Sultana (6', 26') and S Rinaroy (25') were on target for the Imphal East side as I Premeshori and M Mandakini scored a goal apiece for the Thoubal team.
Men's Football : Churachandpur, Ukhrul, Kamjong script comfortable wins, enter quarter finals
Churachandpur knocked out Chandel 5-1 as Ukhrul devastate Jiribam 10-0 today in the men's football tournament at Artificial Turf Ground, Lamlong Thongkhong to seal their places in the quarter finals. Seiminthang (27', 62') was on target twice in Churachandpur's 5-1 victory as Manglieiboy (35'), S Kamthian John (39') and Letminlian (72') netted a goal apiece.
The only goal for the Chandel team was scored by SK Bunghong in the 38th minute.
In the second match of the tournament, Lungsung (5', 27', 40'), Rungsing (18', 49', 71') scored three goals apiece to hand Ukhrul a comprehensive 10-0 win over Jiribam.
Shomi Rongui (64'), Sagui Shimrah (66'), Yami Gonguah (76') and RK Rezat (77') also netted a goal each in Ukhrul's win.
Later in the third match, M Rakheveiche (8', 78') scored twice to hand Senapati a 2-1 win over Bishnupur.
S Subash (50') scored the lone goal for the losing side.
In the fourt match, Kamjong rode on Mathanmi hattrick (43', 53', 63') to rout Pherzawl 3-0.They will meet Imphal East in the quarter final.
In the fifth match, Thoubal entered the quarter finals beating Tengnoupal 6-5 on penalties after a 3-3 regulation time draw.
Arish (37', 78') and Chaothoi (49') were on target for the Thoubal team as Thanglalben (40+1') and Ginminlen (42', 58') scored to help Tengnoupal team claw back into the game and forced penalty shoot-out to decide the game.
During the shoot-out, Kh Bandhan, Kh Zahir, Sh Arish, Ng Jemson, S Langamba nd N Kishan found the target as only David, Manggoulen, Thengkhohou, Seigoulen, Lungtinsei and Thanglenmang scored from the spot for the Tengnoupal side in a losing cause.
Archery : L Rabina wins recurve gold
L Rabina of Kakching won the Individual Olympic Round Recurve gold shooting 6 points in the final to beat her compatriot Th Shwasita who added 4 points here at SAI NERC Takyel.
N Linthoingambi of Imphal East (6 points) finished third in the competition to win bronze.
In the men's event, T Sen of Imphal East earned the gold scoring 6 points in the final against 2 scored by Ak Amerjit of Thoubal.
E Robinson of Kakching settled for the bronze medal.
In the mixed team Recurve event, Kakching's pair of W Britenjit and L Rabina amassed 6 points to seal the gold medal.
Mutum Malemnganba and Jenifer Paonam of Imphal West won the silver finishing second with a total of 2 points while Imphal East duo- N Subhachandra and N Linthoingambi finished third to win bronze.
Rabina also earned Kakching third gold medal in the women's team event pairing up with Th Shwasita, H Sandhyarani and Y Anupama to gather 5 points.
Imphal East team comprising N Linthoingambi, Ch Naobi, Y Sanamanbi and I Laxmi shot 1 point to win silver as Imphal West team bagged bronze medal.
In the men's team Recurve final, Thoubal team consisting of Ak Amerjit, N Parithoi, L Milan and O Sushil beat Imphal West team of Mutum Malemnganba, Leishangthem Yohenba, L Nelson, K Naotomba 5-1 to secure the gold medal.
Kakching finished third to settle for the bronze medal in the competition.
Netball : Imphal West, Imphal East emerged victorious
The Netball tournament of the Games also kicked off today at Khuman Lampak Hockey Practice field today with the participation of 6 men's and 6 women's teams.
In the men's tournament Group A opener, Imphal East beat Tamenglong 47-11 before Imphal West eased past Thoubal 39-19 in the Group B opener.
In the women's Group A opener, Imphal East downed Tamenglong 25-17 and Imphal West edged past Thoubal 23-14 .

Boxing : 9 quarter final matches completed on Day 1 The Boxing Tournament of the 2nd Manipur Olympic Games also kicked off today at Khuman Lampak Boxing Ring.
Tompok Thokchom of Thoubal entered Youth and Elite Men's (1982-2005) 48 kg semi-final beating Longjam Shyamson of Bishnupur in a quarter final bout today.
In another quarter final bout of the same category, Kangpokpi's Biso Roundkhotinsan Koireng beat Md Nazimuddin of Kakching to seal a semi-final ticket.
In a Youth and Elite Men's 51 kg category quarterfinal bout, Ningthoujam Chinglen sana of Thoubal beat Ukhrul's Kaping Hongchui to book a place in the semi-final before Thoithoiba Longjam of Kakching earned a walkover.
Jackson Pukhrambam of Imphal West also booked a semi-final ticket in the same category by beating Khwairakpam Denyson of Imphal East in another quarter final bout.
In a 54 kg category quarter final clash of the same age group, Kingson Pukhrambam of Imphal West beat Thokchom Amitkumar of Bishnupur as Laldong Lian Vaiphei of Churachandpur earned a walkover.
In the Youth and Elite men's 57 kg category quarter final clashes, Imphal West's Laishram Edison beat Chungneireng M Kom of Churachandpur and Laishubam Radheshyam of Bishnupur outlasted Mangte Loya Kom of Chandel.
Volleyball : Ukhrul, Chandel, Kangpokpi women's win on Day 1
Ukhrul beat Noney 2-0, Chandel beat Bishnupur 2-0 and Kangpokpi edged past Churachanpur 2-1 in the women's volleyball tournament at Heirok Volleyball Court in Thoubal.
Meanwhile in the men's competition, Ukhrul beat Kangpokpi 2-1 before Bishnupur beat Kakching and Kamjong beat Imphal East with identical margins.
