Imphal, August 26 2022:
Manipur Democratic Alliance (MDA) would be fielding its candidates in the municipal council and Panchayat elections likely to be held in October this year.
A decision in this regard was taken during a special meeting of MDA held on Friday at Hotel Imphal, here.
The meeting chaired by former minister and MDA chairman Bijoy Koijam also appointed Manmit Singh Arora and Parminder Singh as constituent member and co-convener respectively for three years.
The meeting also decided to submit a memorandum to the Union railway minister for establishment of railway recruitment board in Manipur in view of arrival of railway and mount pressure on the state government for legalisation of locally brewed liquor for export so that the state could generate revenue from this sector.
Regarding the meeting, Bijoy Koijam said the closure of Indo-Myanmar border trade has caused huge loss to the state and MDA has decided to prevail upon the chief minister for constituting a committee to look into the affairs of border trade.
He said that villagers in border area are facing immense difficulty and hence the state government should submit a memorandum to the Centre for opening the border trade.
