Women Equality Day observed; awareness prog held

Imphal, August 26 2022:
District Legal Services Authority, Ukhrul in collaboration with Hungpung Women Society Ukhrul organised Women Equality Day cum Legal Awareness Programme at Hungpung Baptist Church on Friday.
The programme held under the theme "Law Relating to Drugs and Punishment in India" and "Land Acquisition Act 2013" was attended by District and Sessions Judge Ukhrul cum DLSA Ukhrul Chairman Samom Ibijen and GJM Ukhrul cum DLSA secretary in-charge Hiralata Moirangthem as the presidium members.
PLVs of DLSA Ukhrul, panel lawyers and members of Hungpung Women Society were also present at the programme.
Retainer lawyer Ningnim highlighted the importance of organising Women's Day arid different laws related to crime against women while Hiralata Moirangthem deliberated on "Law Relating to Drugs and Punishment in India" and "Land acquisition Act 2013" along with pointing out the role of women in making a drug free society.
As part of the programme an interaction session was also conducted.
Under the aegis of Manipur State Legal Services Authority, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Imphal East in association with Lanleima VLF, Rahmat VLF, Tulihal GP and Legal Aid Clinic Nungbrang also observed Women's Equality Day along with a GP level legal awareness programme at Yairipok Poir-oukhongjin Mayai Leikai community hall on Friday.
DLSA Imphal East secretary Arshad Saeed Shah, All Manipur Bar Association former general secretary advocate B Supriya, Tulihal GP pradhan Md Abdul Khalique, Angtha GP pradhan Th Manihal, Andro PS OC Inspector Md Riaj Khan, Coalition Against Drugs And Alcohol (CADA) president Hijam Priyokumar, Lanleima VLF Poiroukhongjin president Laishram Brajamani, Dhrubatara Women's Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited president K Jamini and Legal Aid Clinic Nungbrang co-ordinator K Tendenba attended the programme as presidium members.
At the event, Advocate B Supriya spoke on domestic violence and drugs abuse, CADA secretary general Geetchandra Mangang on drugs abuse and prevention, and advocate Arshad Saeed Shah on rights of women and children as resource persons.
Later, an interaction session with the participants was also held during which the three resource persons responded to questions raised by the participants.
